This book was written by François Chevalier and Jacques Taglang with a preface by Ben Lexcen. It is published as a bilingual edition (English/French) and is a monumental historical work of 684 pages in an impressive format: 45 cm (17.70 in.) wide and 31.5 cm (12.40 in.) high, 1 meter (3.28 ft) wide when opened, and weighing a hefty 8 kilos (17.6 lb).
America’s Cup Yacht Designs 1851–1986 presents the history of the America’s Cup and includes 117 plans (lines, frames, sails) of all the America’s Cup defenders and challengers and other contenders directly or indirectly involved in the Cup (e.g., trial horses) from the origins to 1986! Each design, expertly redrawn by François Chevalier, is accompanied by its designer’s biography, and the appendix contains technical data sheets for each yacht.
At publication, this book was universally greeted by the press and by America’s Cup aficionados as an important contribution to America’s Cup history.
